12 reasons babies cry and how to soothe them

Highlights
·        1. Hunger
·        2. A dirty diaper
·        3. Needs sleep
·        4. Wants to be held
·        6. Needs to burp
·        7. Too cold or too hot
·        8. Something small
·        9. Teething
·        10. Wants less stimulation
·        11. Wants more stimulation
·        12. Not feeling well
There's no getting around it: Babies cry. It's how they communicate hunger, pain, fear, a need for sleep, and more. So how are parents supposed to know what their baby is trying to tell them? It can be tricky to interpret your child’s cries, especially at first. Here are the most common reasons babies cry. If your little one is wailing and you don't know why, work your way down the list. Chances are you'll find something that helps.1. HungerThis is probably the first thing you think of when your baby cries.Learning to recognize the signs of hunger will help you start your baby's feedings before the crying stage. Some signs to watch for in newborns: fussing, smacking of lips, rooting (a newborn reflex that causes babies to turn their head toward your hand when you stroke their cheek), and putting  their hands to their mouth.2. A dirty diaper3. Needs sleep

We thought our daughter was colicky for the first five weeks of life, until we read about how babies get really cranky if they're exhausted. After we started putting her to sleep as soon as she yawned the first time at any time of the day, she cried a lot less and had fewer problems with gas.
— Anonymous
I've noticed that if my baby starts crying after being played with, fed, and changed, and she's been up for a while, she is overtired! I just hold her close, talk to her in a soft voice, and let her cry. She doesn't cry hard when I hold her like that. She makes funny fussy noises with her eyes closed. Before long, she's sound asleep.
— Stefanie
A loud shhhhhh sound works incredibly well. I had to make a recording because I was getting lightheaded from doing it so much for my daughter. My recording lasts for 48 minutes, and it works every time!
— Rob
My 2 ½-month-old is so interested in everything that she doesn't want to stop being part of it by falling asleep. Yet she's tired and cranky at the same time. Minimizing sensory input sometimes helps her feel like she's not "missing something" by settling down. (And then there are the times when she's just going to cry no matter what I do.)
— Anonymous
4. Wants to be held
I like to lightly wrap my daughter in a soft blanket, hold her in a nursing position and lightly stroke her face and head. She loves feeling my hands in her hair and calms down pretty quickly.
— Tiffany
My son loves to hear my voice, so when he cries uncontrollably, I hold him close to my chest and tell him that Mommy is here and will protect him. Within minutes, he is sleeping in my arms!
— Jey
5. Tummy troubles (gas, colic, and more)Discover other possible causes of babies abdominal pain, including reflux, stomach flu, milk allergy, lactose intolerance, constipation, and intestinal blockage.Even if your baby isn't colicky and has never been fussy after eating, an occasional bout of gas pain can make him miserable until he works it out. If you suspect gas, try something simple to eliminate it such as putting him on his back, holding his feet, and moving his legs in a gentle bicycling motion. Some babies let you know right away when they need to be changed. Others can tolerate a dirty diaper for quite a while.Either way, this one is easy to check and simple to remedy.Aren't babies lucky? When they're tired they can simply go to sleep – anytime, anywhere. Or so adults like to think. In reality, it's harder for them than you might think. Instead of nodding off, babies may fuss and cry, especially if they're overly tired.Babies need a lot of cuddling. They like to see their parents' faces, hear their voices, and listen to their heartbeats, and can even detect their unique smell. Crying can be their way of asking to be held close. You may wonder if you'll spoil your baby by holding him so much, but during the first few months of life that isn't possible. To give your arms some relief, try wearing your baby in a front carrier or sling.Tummy troubles associated with gas or colic can lead to lots of crying. In fact, the rather mysterious condition called colic is defined as inconsolable crying for at least three hours a day, at least three days a week, at least three weeks in a row. If your baby often fusses and cries right after being fed, he may be feeling some sort of tummy pain. Many parents swear by over-the-counter anti-gas drops for babies or gripe water (made from herbs and sodium bicarbonate). Get your doctor's okay before using either of these. For more help, discover more than 20 strategies for soothing a colicky baby.

7 signs that your child loves you

1Your newborn stares into your eyes.

She's actually working hard to memorize your face. He doesn't understand anything else about the world, but he knows you're important.

2Your baby thinks about you even when you're not around.
Between 8 and 12 months old, she'll start to scrunch her face and look around when you leave the room — and she'll smile when you return.
3Your toddler throws wicked tantrums.
Nope, those screaming fits don't mean he's stopped loving you. He wouldn't be so hurt and angry if he didn't trust you so deeply.
4Your toddler runs to you for comfort when she falls down or feels sad.
Kids this age may not truly understand the meaning of "I love you," but their actions speak louder than words.
5Your preschooler gives you a gift.
A flower picked from a garden, a finger-painted heart, a sparkly rock, or another small token is his way of saying you're special.

6Your preschooler wants your approval.
She'll start to be more cooperative around the house, and she'll look for chances to impress. "Look at me!" will become a catchphrase.
7Your grade-schooler trusts you with secrets, like his first crush or his most embarrassing moment.

Day 20: Sharing

Luke 3:11
If you have two shirts, share with person who does not have one. If you have food, share that too.
How many times have you heard someone say, “Don’t touch that; its mine! If you’re like most of us, you’ve heard those words many times and you may have even said them yourself.
The Bible tells us that it’s better for us to share things than it is to keep them all to ourselves. And the Bible also tells us that when we share, it’s best to do so cheerfully. So be sure to share. It’s the best way because it’s God’s way.

A Timely Tip

Your acts of kindness and generosity will speak for louder than words.

A Bed Time Prayer
Dear Lord, let me help others in every way that I can. Jesus served others; I can too. So, I will share my possessions and my prayers. And, I will share kind words with my family and my friends. Amen

Day 19: Slow Down!

2 Peter 1:6
Knowing God leads to self-control. Self-control leads to patient endurance, and patient endurance leads to godliness.
Maybe you’re one of those girls who tries to do everything fast, faster or fastest! If so, maybe you sometimes do things before you think about the consequences of your actions. If that’s the case, it’s probably a good idea to slow down a little bit so you can think before you act. When you do, you’ll soon discover the value of thinking carefully about things before you get started. And while you’re at it, it’s probably a good idea to think before you speak, too. After all, you’ll never have to apologize for something that you didn’t say.

A Bed Time Prayer
Dear Lord, tomorrow and every day after that, I will slow down and think about things before I do them. And when I slow down to think about things, I will always try to do what’s right. Amen

Day 18: Be Respectful

1 Peter 2:17
Show respect for all people. Love the brothers and sisters of God’s family.
Are you polite and respectful to your parents and teachers? And do you  do your best to treat everybody with respect they deserve? If you want to obey God’s rules, then you should be able to answer yes to these questions.
Remembered this: the Bible teaches you to be a respectful person- and if it’s right there in the Bible, it’s  certainly the right thing to do!

A Timely Tip

If you’re angry with your mom or your dad, don’t blurt out something unkind. If you can’t say anything nice, go to your room and don’t come out until you can.

A Bed Time Prayer
Dear Lord, please give me the maturity to respect my teachers, my coaches and my parents. Amen

Day 17: Hopes, Hopes and More Hopes

Psalm 51:8
Hope is a very good thing to have…. And to share. So make this promise to yourself and keep it: promise yourself  that you’ll be a hopeful person. Think good thoughts. Trust God. Become friends with Jesus. And trust your hopes, not your  fears. Then, when you’ve filled your heart with hope and gladness, share your good thoughts with friends. They’ll be better for it, and so will  you.

A Timely Tip

Think about all the things you have (starting with your family and your faith)… and I think about all the things you can do! Believe in yourself.

A Bed Time Prayer
Dear Lord, I have so many reasons to be happy. Let me think good thoughts and look for the good in other people. And, help me be a joyful person now and always. Amen

Day 15: Here Are Some Big Ideas About Going to Church

Here are two important ideas. Take a few minutes to talk to your mom or dad about what these quotations mean.

The church needs people who are doers of the Word and not just hearers.
                                                       Warren Wiersbe

Christian are like coals in a fire. Together they glow-apart they grow cold.
                                                       Anonymous

A Bed Time Prayer
Dear Lord, Thank you for my church. When I am at church, I will be generous, kind, well-behaved, and respectful. And when I am not at church, I will act the same way. Amen

Day 14: Laughter Is a Gift

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
There is a time for everything, and everything on earth has its special season. There is a time to cry and a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad and a time to dance.

Do you like to laugh? Of course you do! Laughter is a gift from God that He hopes you’ll use in the right way. So here are a few things to remember:
1. God wants you to be happy.
2. Laughter is a good thing when you’re laughing at the right
    things.
3. You should laugh with people, but you should never laugh at them.
God created laughter for a reason…and God knows best. So

A Bed Time Prayer

Dear Lord, laughter is your gift to me; help me to enjoy it. Every day, Father, put a smile on my face, and help me to share that smile with my family and my friends. Amen

Day 16: Obey Your Teachers

1 John 2:17

And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does God’s will remain forever.
It’s good to obey your teachers, but before you can obey them, you must make sure you understand what your teachers are saying; you must be a student who knows how to listen.
Once you decide to be a careful listener, you’ll become a better learner, too. But if you’re determined to talk to other kids while your teachers are teaching, you won’t learn very much.
So do yourself a favor: when you go to school or church, listen and obey. You’ll be glad you did… and your teachers will be glad, too.

A Bed Time Prayer
Dear Lord, when I play by Your rules, You bless my life. But, when I disobey your rules, I suffer the consequences. Help me obey You and my parents and teachers… Starting right now! Amen

Moringa (Malunggay) For Breastfeeding Mothers

After bringing a baby into the world, then comes nourishing it to grow and survive. The period of lactation is brief and it is special in a woman's lifetime. It can be measured as additional thing for pride. This phase requires breastfeeding mother to take extra care to ensure that she can produce and provide abundant high quality milk for her infant.

Human milk is the ideal food for infants. The mother should focus on the diet she will consume in order to produce nutritious milk for infant's consumption. Sometimes, the adequacy of diet is the measure to produce substantive quality milk. It does not take expensive foods to say that an adequate diet for lactating mother is attained. There are numerous plants around that are good source of substantive diet. Poorly nourished mothers can produce less milk. The right amount of milk should be the major consideration of proper nutrition.

A nursing mother produces an average of 23 to 27 ounces of milk a day. Per quart, it contains 330 milligrams of calcium. At least 500 calories per day is required extra energy expenditure. Therefore, good nutrition is equally important for both you and the baby. The breast milk quality can be affected in extreme cases of food deprivation. These are experienced by lactating mothers in Africa and in some countries of Asia where food is scarce and poverty is rampant.

At present, the World Health Organization (WHO) is undertaking measures to combat malnutrition and famine. With government and non-government organizations, they are encouraging famished countries for massive cultivation of Moringa Oleifera or malunggay. This plant is a good source of nutrition.

Lactating mothers are advised to eat young Moringa Oleifera leaves to enhance milk production. The leaves have the capacity to bring comfort to digestion, constipation, hysteria and stomach spasms. An extract from the leaf can be applied to the abdomen and is taken to get rid of intestinal worms. The extract mixed with honey is use to heal sore eyes and bruises.

Moringa Oleifera is a tree that has small droplets of leaves. It grows to the height of 8 meters. The droplet-like leaves of malunggay is good source of needed breast milk quality. Malunggay contains more calcium and Vitamin A, B, and C as other leafy vegetables. Nutritionist says that a 200 milligram of fresh malunggay leaves is equal to the nutrition of four eggs and two grams of milk. Seventy five calories of food energy, 60 grams of protein, and 13 grams of carbohydrates and 353 milligrams of calcium is what a hundred grams of Moringa Oleifera can produce. Minerals such as niacin, thiamine, phosphorous and ascorbic acid are more on malunggay than any other vegetables. It has iron compound, too, that can prevent anemia.

Increase your daily nutritional intakes that may deem helpful for you and your baby's daily needs. You can eat more malunggay in a day and be the recipient of a good and quality lactating mother's capacity. It is everywhere and it costs less. Grab some for a healthy you and the baby!

Day 13: Laughter Is a Gift

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
There is a time for everything, and everything on earth has its special season. There is a time to cry and a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad and a time to dance.

     Do you like to laugh! Of course you do! Laughter is a gift from God that He hopes you’ll se in the right way. So here are few things  to remember;
1.God wants you  to be happy. 2. Laughter is a good thing when you’re laughing at the right things. 3. You should laugh with people, but you should never laugh at them.
God created laughter for a reason… and God knows best. So do yourself  a favor; laugh at the right things… and laugh a lot!

A Bed Time Prayer

Dear Lord, laughter is Your gift to me; help me to enjoy it.  Every day, Father, put a smile on my face, and help me to share that smile with my family and my friends. Amen

Day 12: White Lies

Proverbs 11:6
Doing what is right freedom to honest people.

Sometimes, people convince themselves that it’s okay to tell ‘little white lies.’ Sometimes people convince themselves that itsy bitsy lies aren’t harmful. But there’s a problem; little lies have a way of growing into big ones, and once they grow up, they cause lots of problems.
Remember that lies, no matter what size, are not part of God’s plan for our lives, so tell the truth about everything.I’ts the right thing to do, and besides; when you always tell the truth, you don’t have to try and remember what you said!

A Bed Time Prayer

Dear Lord, help me be a person whose words are true and whose heart is pure. In everything that I do, let me use Jesus as my model and my guide. Amen

Day 11: The Habit of Honesty

Matthew 5:8
Those who want to do right more than anything else are happy. God will fully satisfy them.

Our lives are made up of lots and lots of habits. And the habits we choose help determine the kind of people we become. If we choose habits that are good, we are happier and healthier. If we choose habits that are bad, then it’s too bad for us!
Honesty, like so many other things, is a habit. And it’s a habit that is right for you.
Do you want to grow up to become the kind of woman that God intends for you to be? Then get into the habit of being honest with everybody. You’ll be glad you did… and so will God!

A Bed Time Prayer

Dear Lord, some habits are good, and some habits aren’t. I know that it’s good to be honest person. So please help me from the habit of being honest with my parents, with my teachers, and my friends. Amen

The Newborn Bill of Rights

Posted by PicasaThe newborn has the right to:

1.  Be born in as natural, loving and family-centered setting as possible with a knowledgeable, caring, conscientious birth attendant, either at home, in a birth center, or a progressive, family-centered hospital, as best meets the particular needs of the family.

2.  Be born vaginally, without intervention, drugs, induced labor, forceps, electronic fetal monitor, artificial rupture of the membrane or any other aggressive obstetrical procedure, barring absolute health necessity.

3.  Be born in the presence of his/her father and be held immediately after birth by the mother and father, barring absolute health contraindications. (Some hospitals allow the mother to hold her baby five minutes or so on the delivery table before taking him or her away. This does not constitute uninterrupted bonding.)

4.  Be kept warm after birth. Dangerous consequences can result from the loss of body heat. In most cases, the mother's body insures adequate warmth if the baby is covered with a blanket.

5.  Be fed on demand, in accordance with his/her body's need for food, rather than by an arbitrary imposed schedule. All babies should be considered for breastfeeding, as breast milk has been proven to be the superior food for infants.

6.  Be spared any painful procedure that is not absolutely necessary for his/her health or well being, such as routine administration of silver nitrate drops in the eyes. This procedure is useless for the 95% of all babies whose mothers do not have gonorrhea. Prophylactic ointments such as erythromycin or tetracycline, which do not sting, can be used.

7.  Be afforded necessary and appropriate treatment in the event of abnormality or illness, with all decisions being made with only the welfare of the child in mind. If a procedure is necessary, such as surgery for a hernia or other birth defect, the infant has the right to have appropriate, effective anesthesia, since all older individuals undergoing surgery are afforded this consideration.

8.  Be allowed to keep all normally occurring parts of his/her body, including the foreskin, which is a useful, protective piece of body tissue.

9.  Be spared any cosmetic procedure that involves alteration of normal structures, until the child is old enough to choose for him/herself whether or not he/she wishes it. Therefore, tattooing of child's body, piercing of a child's ears or circumcising a child's foreskin, done merely for the sake of the parent's sense of esthetics, is a basic violation of individual human rights, because a child cannot make a choice about it.

10.  Be spared procedures done for demonstration and/or teaching purposes and routine procedures that exist only for the few who may need it.

A Baby talking to God via skyped hehehe....

A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth
tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and
helpless?"

God said,
"Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inquired,
"But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing
and smile to be happy."

God said, Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you.

And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the child asked,
"And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me
if I don't know the language?"

God said,

"Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you
will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will
teach you how to speak."

"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God said,
"Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how
to pray."

"Who will protect me?"

God said,
"Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."

God said,
"Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the
way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from
Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to
leave now, please tell me my angel's name."

God said,
"You will simply call her, "Nanay Joy."

There you go!

Day 10: Is the Golden Rule Your Rule, Too?

Philippians 2:3
Don’t be selfish….Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself.
Is the Golden Rule your rule, or is it just another Bible verse that goes in one ear and out the other. Jesus made himself perfectly clear. He instructed you to treat other people in the same way that you want to be treated. But sometimes, especially when you’re feeling pressure from friends, or when you’re tired or upset, obeying the Golden Rule can seem like an impossible task-but it’s not. So be kind to everybody and obey God’s rule, the Golden Rule, that is.

A Timely Tip

You must more than talk about it. In order to be a good person, you must do good things. So get busy! The best time to do a good deed is as soon as you can do it!

A Bed Time Prayer

Dear Lord, the Golden Rule is your rule. And I’ll try hard to make it my rule, too. Amen

Day 9: Here Are Some Big Ideas about Wisdom

Here are two important ideas. Take a few minutes to talk to your mom or dad about what these quotations mean.

If you lack knowledge, go to school. If you lack wisdom, get on your knees.
                                Vance Havner

The theme of Proverbs is wisdom, the night use of knowledge. It enables you to evaluate circumstances and people and make the right decisions in life.
                                                                            Warren  Wiersbe

A Bed Time Prayer

Dear Lord, let me be an understanding person especially to my family and friends. Let me be kind to those who need my encouragement and let me be a helpful, generous Christian now and always. Amen

Day 8: Never-Ending Love

Lamentations 3:22
The unfailing Love of the Lord never ends!

How much does God love you? He loves you so much that He sent His Son Jesus to come to this earth for you! And, when you accept Jesus into your heart, God gives you a gift that is more precious than gold: that gift is called “eternal life” which means that you will live forever with God in heaven!
God’s love is bigger and more powerful than anybody can imagine, but it is very real. So do yourself a favor right now: accept God’s love with open arms and welcome His Son Jesus into your heart. When you do, your life will be changed today, tomorrow and forever.

A Bed Time Prayer

Dear God, I know that your love lasts forever. I thank you, Father, for your amazing love. Every day, I will share your love with others, and I will do my best to walk in the footsteps of your son. Amen

Day 7: Share your blessings

2 Corinthians 9:6
Remember this: the person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously.

Jesus told us that we should be generous with other people, but sometimes we don’t feel much like sharing. Instead of sharing the things that we have, we want to keep them all to ourselves. But God doesn’t want selfishness to rule our hearts: He wants us to be generous.
Are you lucky enough to have nice things? If so, God’s instructions are clear: you must share your blessings with others. And that’s exactly the way it should be. After all, think about how generous God has been with you.

A Bed Time Prayer

Dear Lord, help me be a generous and cheerful person. Let me be kind to those who need my smile, and let me share with those who need my help. Amen
